Best Dog-Friendly Adventures Around Chicago

If there was ever a city suited for dog lovers, it's the Windy City! Chicago has been named one of the most dog-friendly cities in the world, with the city's lovely green neighborhoods and awe-inspiring parks, there's no shortage of activities that dogs and humans can enjoy together.

To help you out, here are seven totally paw-some dog-friendly adventures to explore with your adventurous pup around Chicagoland:

Go to the Park

There are many fantastic dog-friendly parks in the Chicagoland area, great for a day out with your four-legged companion. Wiggly Field in Lincoln Park, Skinner Bark Park in the West Loop, and Pooch Park on the North Shore are also local favorites. All dogs playing in a Chicago dog park are required by law to wear a DFA tag to confirm that they are healthy and up to date on their vaccinations.

Hit the Beach

How about spending the day on the beach with dozens of lovely puppies? The world-famous Montrose Dog Beach and Belmont Harbor Beach Dog-Friendly Area, as well as the Moraine Dog Beach and Park in Highland Park and Gillson Dog Beach in Wilmette, all have dog-friendly beaches. Dogs are free to run and play, and there is enough space for them to do so. Keep in mind, though, that between the parking lot and the sand, you must keep your dog on a leash or face a fine.

Go To A Baseball Game

Dog-friendly nights are held at several ballparks across the country, and Chicagoland is no exception. In fact, at one of their yearly "Bark In The Park" events, the Chicago White Sox once established the world record for the most dogs at a sporting event. Tickets must be purchased in advance because the games sell out, but if you are able to obtain seats, this is a fantastic activity for the entire family.

Get Your Pooch Pampered

A trip to the salon is one of the few activities that can help you relax. This is true for both humans and puppies! The Dog Wash in Wilmette, Howlistic Grooming in West Town, and The Grooming Lodge in Barrington, are just a few of the excellent places in the Chicagoland area where you can pamper your dog with a soothing grooming experience.

Go Out To Eat

There are many dog-friendly restaurants in Chicago that will allow you to bring your dog to the outside tables with you. Parson's Chicken & Fish, Big Star, and The Bad Apple are also popular choices. You might also wish to pay a visit to Wigglyville, where you can purchase a tasty treat for your dog.

Go Shopping

Do you want to spoil your canine companion? If you're looking for a  special treat for your dog, Chicagoland has plenty of options, from Urban Pooch in Ravenswood to For Dog's Sake in Logan Square. You can also take your pup with you while shopping at Nordstrom and Crate & Barrel. Tails In The City, a designer dog couture boutique with gourmet dog treats, is well worth a visit.

Take A Boat Ride

With convenient access to the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, as well as other local waterways, Chicagoland is a great place to get out on the water. With services like Mercury's Canine Cruise, Shoreline Sightseeing, and Seadog, which takes you and your pooch for a ride on Lake Michigan and offers a great view of the city skyline, an architecture tour that explores the lake and the Chicago River, and the “Seadog Extreme” ride for thrill-seekers.
