STREETERVILLE

Streeterville is where Chicago's skyline meets the lake. Jutting out into Lake Michigan just north of the Chicago River, this iconic neighborhood delivers the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and some of the most spectacular high-rise views in any American city.

Named for George Streeter — a colorful 19th-century squatter who claimed the reclaimed sandbar as his own — Streeterville has evolved into one of Chicago's most prestigious and vibrant downtown addresses, home to 23,000 residents, Northwestern University's medical campus, and a lifestyle that puts everything within walking distance.

THE NEIGHBORS

A rhythmic blend of young professionals, doctors, university students, empty nesters, and tourists — one of Chicago's most diverse and cosmopolitan residential communities, with an average individual income of $124,570.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A true walker's paradise — luxury high-rises, iconic landmarks, and every amenity imaginable all within a few blocks of each other.

The Magnificent Mile is on your western edge for world-class shopping. Ohio Street Beach and the Lakefront Trail are steps to the east. Navy Pier stretches 3,000 feet into Lake Michigan to the south. Water Tower Place, Whole Foods, and Northwestern University's medical facilities are all in the neighborhood. The Red Line Grand stop and major bus routes connect you to the rest of the city in minutes.

THE LIFESTYLE

Morning runs along the Lakefront Trail, lunch at Marisol inside the Museum of Contemporary Art, cocktails 95 floors up at the Signature Room, and dinner at Le Nomade — Streeterville's lifestyle is uncompromisingly urban and uncompromisingly refined.

Beyond the classics, new entertainment keeps arriving: state-of-the-art movie theaters, sleek bowling alleys with wine bars and river views, and arcade-golf-gastropub hybrids that make the neighborhood a destination even for non-residents. Offshore Rooftop at Navy Pier — the largest rooftop bar in the world — draws crowds every summer for its panoramic views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.

UNEXPECTED APPEAL

Most of Streeterville is built on land that didn't exist 200 years ago — and its origin story is one of Chicago's most colorful.

George Streeter ran his steamboat aground on a sandbar in 1886, declared the accumulated land his own sovereign territory, and spent decades defending it with a shotgun. The city eventually won — but the neighborhood kept his name. Today, the East Lake Shore Drive Historic District on the neighborhood's northern edge preserves a stunning row of early 20th-century luxury apartment buildings that look like they belong on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

THE MARKET

One of Chicago's most diverse real estate markets — from entry-level studio condos to multi-million-dollar lakefront penthouses, all within the same prestigious zip code.

One-bedroom condos range from $230,000 to $425,000, while larger units reach $600,000 to $1.5M. Historic Mies van der Rohe apartments at 860 N Lake Shore Drive and the luxury tower at 600 N Lake Shore represent the neighborhood's architectural range. New development continues along the southern edge of the neighborhood, with proposed towers at 500 N Lake Shore Drive adding to Streeterville's already impressive skyline.
